The Seeing Red conference is designed to facilitate a deep integration of the psychoanalytic and the artistic in order to illuminate the unconscious forces behind gendered oppression and suggest new ways of seeing and being seen as women in the world. Conference sessions will focus on an innovative juxtaposition of global, inter-generational, interdisciplinary perspectives rooted in an analytic and artistic foundation. Presentations are designed to help clinicians and others learn to assess alignment to an archetypal bias and recognize the manifestations of internalized oppression in clients for a creative re-visioning and re-articulation of authentic identities of women and their expression in contemporary culture. Keynotes will explore the archetypal themes of power as related to gendered identity and the way in which this manifests in both a clinical as well as cultural setting. Inter-disciplinary presentations will focus on the use of creative modalities in a clinical setting in helping clients move beyond traditionally held gendered constructs in order to connect to a more authentic articulation of identity. Presenters will work with contemporary psychoanalytical theory, Jungian archetypal theory as well as with the recognition of epistemologies that are embodied and intuitive as necessary in connecting with unconscious patterns of the psyche.
